The Light of the World

Isaiah 9:2  - The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.

One of my kids favorite movie's during the holidays is the Polar Express. One because they love trains and anything that talks about them but  also partially because of the excitement of the show and the adventure to the North Pole. As I was watching the show the other evening with my boys, I was moved as I watched it thinking of the Promised King returning for a second time.

This is why - Towards the end of the show, Santa Claus enters the picture. But it's the events that surrounded his entrance that are so grandiose. The movie takes you to the center of the North Pole in the center of the town. All the elves are gathered around and as the camera goes over the square, you see a see of red (the elves are all dressed in red), there is music, and singing. The moment is filled with so much excitement and glory as they await for Santa Claus to exit the building and come out the sleigh. Right before, the big guy, enters the square, there is a choir singing, trumpets blasting, and all eyes are on the light coming from the open doors, as they await Him to step out, everyone starts singing in unison awaiting Santa. As you see Him enter, the light that shines around Him takes you captive and brings joyfulness.

As I watched all I could think about was the prophesy of the second return of the Savior. As it says in the following verses:

1 Thessalonians 4:16  - For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of the archangel and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.

Revelation 19:1 " ...Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God, for his judgements are true and just."

Revelation 19:6b-7a "...Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory..."

You see our God, The Father of Light, will return once and for all to claim His throne. His Son born in the manager two thousand years ago was just the beginning of His rescue plan for us. Although, Santa had a triumph entrance in the Polar Express, our God and Savior's entrance will be nothing in comparison, it will be ten-fold and more when the Glorious King arrives. The trumpets will sound and the Son of Man will descend from the clouds. Those who have believed and have passed will join Him in the clouds, and for those who are still alive, they too will ascend into the heavens. There will be glorious singing, worship, and I can also imagine dancing and falling on our knees before the Majestic King. The light that shines down will be more then a mere light, it will be a bright light, with all radiance and glory. I imagine it will be so glorious and radiant that we will be filled with the joy that can only come from above. Our hearts will be full of gratitude for the King's return and how he loves us, they will be no words but that of praise!

You see, God's Word points to this triumphal entrance and He Himself, when He walked on earth, spoke of the second coming. As I remembered the promise of His return, my heart was filled with such joy and gratefulness, because even in the midst of this season of remembering His birth, I also remember that it was just the beginning of his rescue plan to save us once and for all! You see His birth would eventually end in His death, that would set us free from the judgement of our sins, by giving us a way to come before the Heavenly Father. Yet, His second coming will be one of even more splendor and grace, as we will then be able to enter into His presence and the king of lies will be defeated once and for all, and we will live forever with our Heavenly Father. To Him my dear sisters and friends be the Praise and Glory!!!
