Happy New Year!

Happy New Year my friends & family!

Can you believe it is 2014! I can't believe 2013 came and went already, what a year full of high's and low's for us! One thing I love about the New Year is it feels like a fresh start, a time to aim at doing something new and feeling like you have a clean slate from all your screw-ups and mistakes from the previous year. Many of us have set goals as how we want to improve ourselves for this year whether it be to lose weight, completing a project around the house (e.i.-organizing closets, decluttering your house), find ways to be a better wife and mother, eating healthier, and the lists goes on and on. I can tell you that I really wanted to show my family the love of Christ as one of my goals and I have already screwed that up by getting upset but I was reminded by a verse I read in my reading the other morning that we are given a new slate with Christ everytime we come to him and ask forgiveness.

Corinthians 5:17, " Therefore if anyone is in Christ he is a new creature; the old things have passed away; behold the new things have come".

Wow!! This is all I can say to this verse. If any of you are like me I can sometimes read this and just keep moving along into the next verse but this verse the other day stopped me in my tracks. Probably because I was feeling guilty for being a selfish creature of habit and feeling like a complete failure as a wife and mother. But just stop a minute and re-read the verse above; it says, if I'm in Christ I'm a new creature of habit, meaning all the times I have failed to show love, forgiveness, grace to others, and the pain I have caused others through harsh or angry words have been cleared away through the LOVE and work of Christ death on the cross. I have been given a clean slate I don't need a New Year to make me feel I have a clean slate I have a Heavenly Father who has washed the slate clean and opened me with welcome arms amidst all my stupid mistakes, failures, anger words, & running away from him. He says come here my child it is okay, I forgive you! What complete GRACE we have been given and take for granted so often. Do we truly understand this gift??? I know at times I don't because I continue to beat myself up for mistakes and failures of goals that I have set.

My wish and prayer is that you remember that if you are a child of Christ your mistakes & failures this year have already been forgiven. We are told in Isaiah, " do not call to mind the former things, or ponder things of the past. Behold, I will do something new, now it will spring forth; will you not be aware of it??"

My friends and family do not continue to focus on the past or former things but look ahead at the new things springing forth this year, Let the Lord show you how truly amazing he is. I'm not saying this year will be perfect but if we continue to understand the grace we have been given and that has been bestowed on us as believers we will move past the argument we had with our husband 5 minutes ago and look to how we can turn it around and show love.
