Discernment Decides

There isn’t a wrong or right decision. It is not the only way to parent, but God has led some (me included) to make the decision to raise the kids full-time at home. So, here we are fulfilling our God-given purpose, but then something starts to tug you in a different direction. Is God creating in you a different purpose aligned with being home? This is where asking for discernment while in prayer comes into play. Romans 12:2 tells us to not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Just like we made the decision to stay home full time because it was God’s will for us we also must make sure that it’s God’s will that we take on another responsibility.
Proverbs 31 talks about a woman working with her hands, her earnings, and providing for her family. Titus 2:5 reminds us to be busy at home/to work in their home/to be managers in the home. Where does that leave us? Where we need to be: on our knees asking God the tough questions:

1.       Is what I want to do going to take away from Your desire for me to be home full time?

2.       Is it going to make me too busy? Our pastor once said if you’re too busy to be obedient to God’s word and/or calling then you’re just that – TOO busy!

3.       Am I seeking Your glory or the world’s approval? 1 John 2:17 tells us that the world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.

4.       Am I needing this to feel fulfillment when that should only come from You? Philippians 4:19 tells us that God alone will supply every need of ours.
I’ll end with Matthew 6:33 that tells us to seek first the kingdom of God; not to seek what we can do for the kingdom of God. There’s a difference and understanding that difference and applying it will guide you in the right direction when exploring God's will for you. It will help us mommas be the women that God created us to be.

Bio: A few years ago I began to take in, appreciate, and value all of the roles in my life and what each of those entails. What are those? I am a believer in Jesus Christ who is thankful for His unending grace, a wife to the love of my life, a stay at home mom to 3 sweet kids, an only child to amazing parents, a friend to some pretty special people, and most recently a Coach with Beachbody! In an effort to share these life roles I felt led to write! Each role has come with a little here and a little there of different kinds of experiences, thoughts, opinions, and lessons learned (those aren’t always fun, eh?) Each of these vary from being serious, light-hearted, fun, and some pretty boring (haha), but all very real. You see, our lives are made up of a ton of tiny moments that make up a GREAT story, ours!
