Alive in Him - Book Review

Gloria Furman's book, Alive in Him, was published by Crossway. In exchange for my honest opinion, I was given a free e-copy of this book to review.

When I picked this book to review, I thought "hello, it's Gloria Furman". I have read several of her books and have come to long for the knowledge that she has and the way she teaches you how to study the Bible and understand it. This book doesn't disappoint.

Alive in Him, is a in depth look at the themes that are presented in the book of Ephesians.  Gloria digs down into each theme throughout the chapters in this book. Looking at the truths that Paul teaches and the richness of his words in the epistle.

The one part that sticks out to me in this book was in chapter 2, although it was hard to narrow down just one for you. Gloria states, addressing those who think they have a boring born-again story, "If you have been redeemed out of the kingdom of darkness and transferred to the kingdom of God's Son, then your salvation was planned before time in the council of the triune Godhead. Any rescue that required the blood of the perfect Lamb of God and was planned by the Trinity could never be a boring rescue." (Furman, pg 3 into chapter 2). How often do we forget that that we have been rescued, that the Holy One knew us and set forth a plan for us to rescued from sin no matter what our story or background is. This alone gives me goose-bumps as I read these words.

In this book, I believe that Gloria Furman aligns her points to truth and the gospel. I would highly recommend this book but also highly encourage you to read it along with studying the book of Ephesians. I felt that rushing through it was so hard as there is so much truth and wisdom in her words, and studying it along with the book of Ephesians more in depth would have been more beneficial. I would encourage you to slow down and with each chapter, focus on the verses that she is breaking down.
