Showing Love

Good morning friends and family,

Today I have been pondering on events from this past week and I'm reminded that the tongue is a restless evil and full of deadly poison (James 3:8), it can't be tamed by humans. Often times we speak in the moment and so often we are quick  to respond, that the words that leave our mouths are damaging and we don't think about the consequences or repercussions or hurt feelings until it's too late! Then we scramble to take back the words we spoke in anger or out of frustration at accusations or what we thought to be attacks on us. So where do we go from there? Often times I have found myself going and asking the one I wronged for forgiveness and still trying to humble myself and tame my pride that I was wrong. To me the simple act of asking "will you forgive me" is like a battlefield being played out in my head. So why is it so hard to ask for forgiveness? I have come to the conclusion that our sin, pride, and self righteousness so often stop us from doing this simple act of grace that is freely bestow upon us daily and often hourly by Our Heavenly Father!

Paul often talks about the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23, "the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control!" Let's be clear I don't think that we will be 100%  able to do these things but I do believe that when we cry out to the Holy Spirit in the moment that we our struggling he will meet us and help us walk through that moment. I like to call them "Hail Mary" or " shotgun" prayers, were we say Lord, I'm completely about to lose all control if you don't meet me in this moment, please send your Holy Spirit upon me to help me show your love and speak kindly when I'm tempted to just go off or say unkind words!  The Lord has promised that if you ask that we shall receive.

So I encourage you to think before you speak and challenge you to seek forgiveness from those you have wronged!

Matthew 18:4 " whoever humbles himself  like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven"
